Valerian – Valeriana officinalis

Description

The dormant crown of Valerian has a remarkable pungent smell, making it easy to believe that it is important in medicine, being used for stress relief and painkilling (not recommended without full advice). It is also a striking plant 3′ tall with its umbels of white flowers and pinnate leaves. It grows well in moist woodland, but also does well in open ground.
