May Lily – Maianthemum bifolium

Thin white rhizomes creep through leaf litter in this plant’s native woodlands. In early spring, a carpet of glossy green, heart shaped leaves emerge, then in late Apr-May pure white 6” high racemes of flowers. Curiously native in Britain only in woods of NE England, it is found across Northern Europe east into Russia.
